More than just passion; true love!

Greater Cape Town area, 2005: the sun brightly warms up the hearts while a light wind gently moves the leaves of endless rows of vines. My name is Marc, and on that day, I experienced what some people wait their whole life for: love at first sight. Just like that, I fell in love with South Africa, Cape Town and wine. During my 3-month stay, I started to taste and compare the different kinds of wines that South Africa offers. The idea of taking some of my favorites to Switzerland and make them available to friends and family popped up immediately. Once back home, I decided to give it a try and I established Protea Wines GmbH, whose name is based – as some of you might know – on the South Africa’s national flower.

For more than 10 years I went on spreading the word on how great South African wines are and people started to more and more appreciate what I sold. Nevertheless, the demand for quality wines from other countries and regions arose, which eventually lead me to carefully evaluate alternative wines. My palate has always appreciated French wines which made me prospect for premium products of my neighbor country. It did not take long to discover the beauty of small French villages and French vineyards. Besides the big wine names, France has a lot of small hidden treasures, high quality wines that are financially accessible. I therefore decided it was time to broaden the range of wines available at Protea Wines with a couple of those unique French pearls. Since 2015 the selection thus also includes some amazing French wines.

We do more than simply sell wines

As you now start to understand, my goal through Protea Wines is not just to sell wines, but to give you the opportunity to discover something new, something you would not find at the big wine resellers. All vineyards we import wine from are being visited regularly and their wines were carefully tasted in order to build a good and interesting selection (internal link).

This task is obviously an endless one, I will continue to look for those diamonds all around the world, to be able to please you very soon with an even wider range tasteful wine trove.
